  • To apply for a permit, you must:

    • Be at least 14 ½ years old

    • Apply in person at an Idaho Driver’s License Office

    • Bring the following documents:

      • Proof of Idaho residency (school papers, transcript, or bill with address)

      • Proof of legal presence in the U.S.

      • Proof of age/identity (certified birth certificate or U.S. passport)

      • Secondary proof of identity (student ID or state-issued ID)

      • Social Security card

      • Proof of school enrollment (VOC form)

    • Have a parent/guardian present to sign consent

    • Pay the required fees ($15 permit + $6.50 admin fee)

  • Once payment is made to North Star, you’ll receive a voucher by email. Enter the voucher as proof of payment when registering. Be sure to have your learner’s permit before enrolling, as your permit number is required to begin the course.

  • The online course covers 30 hours of material and can be completed at your own pace. You’ll have one full calendar year to finish the online portion. Once completed, you’ll be scheduled for three 2-hour behind-the-wheel sessions with North Star Driving Academy at times that fit your schedule.

  • Absolutely! We work with adult drivers of all experience levels and can design lessons tailored to your individual needs—whether you’re brand-new behind the wheel, brushing up on skills, or preparing for a license test.

Enrollment

  • We make it convenient for you! North Star can meet students at home, school, or a central location. Once you complete the online course, we’ll contact you to schedule your three 2-hour sessions and confirm pickup and drop-off details.

  • North Star proudly serves students in Meridian, Kuna, and Boise. By focusing on the Treasure Valley, we’re able to provide consistent, convenient scheduling and personalized support close to home.

  • Yes. North Star vehicles are equipped with One Step GPS, which records video both inside the vehicle and on the road ahead during drives.

  • Students need to bring their learner’s permit, a valid photo ID, and glasses or contacts if required for driving. Comfortable shoes (no flip-flops or heels) are also recommended to ensure safe and confident driving practice.

  • If you need to reschedule, please give at least 24 hours’ notice. Missed drives without notice will require a $25 make-up fee.

  • After each drive, parents receive an email with detailed feedback. This includes the student’s strengths, areas for improvement, and practice tips to support progress during the supervised driving period.

Driving Sessions

  • We accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as digital wallet payments such as Google Pay and Apple Pay. We also offer the option to pay directly through ACH bank transfer for your convenience.
